Unemployment Benefits Scam Reported In Southington
Police say residents reporting that someone is falsely filing for unemployment benefits in their names.
SOUTHINGTON, CT — Local police report they've been dealing with multiple reports of residents claiming notifications of false unemployment claim requests.
The Southington Police Department said via social media over the weekend that there has been a local influx of fraudulent incidents involving unemployment.
"Residents have received notification via mail that a request for unemployment benefits have been filed in their name," the SPD posted via social media.

The department said people finding this happening to them have some options.
"As always, our agency can assist with any questions or concerns related to fraudulent incidents," wrote the SPD.

"With that, we would like to publish some resources that may be of assistance if you are involved in an unemployment benefits scam."
Specifically, they can contact two government agencies, one state and one federal organization, that handle such situations.
