Southington Warrant Details Alleged Brutal Halloween Party Assault

One witness said the main victim had so much blood in his mouth it sounded like he was drowning.

An arrest warrant for for one of the alleged Halloween party attackers details a brutal attack that left multiple victims injured.

The warrant, first obtained by the Record-Journal, is for Andrew D’Agostino, who allegedly began the assault.

The incident occurred at a Halloween party on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. Six males approached another male and accused him of “snitching” to police in an unrelated criminal matter, according to the warrant. The victim said he attempted to leave the party, but was attacked by D’Agostino with a crutch.

The other alleged assailants joined in and severely beat the victim’s head. The warrant noted that the victim’s eyes were both swollen shut and his front teeth were chipped at the hospital the night of the incident.

Another person attempted to intervene, but was also attacked, according to the warrant.

The female party host also went outside and said she was assaulted too. She noted that the main victim sounded like he was drowning because he had so much blood in his mouth.

The host also said that D’Agostino called her days later and threatened her.

Other witnesses gave similar accounts of the incident, according to the warrant.

The three juveniles who were arrested in the case claimed they weren’t involved when questioned by police.

D’Agostino said he was at the party, heard an argument and a kid with reddish hair pulled out a knife and said he was in the Navy. Screaming broke out and he left.

Arrestee James Wernicki said he was at the party, heard some yelling outside and went to see what was happening. He called for one of the juveniles, who would later be arrested, and they left. He denied being in a fight.

Another witness said he was home with his girlfriend and sister the whole night handing out candy when three juveniles, James Wernicki and arrestee Darrell Hotham returned home and talked about a “huge brawl” they had gotten into.

According to the warrant, Hotham told police he was at the party, but didn’t get into a fight and that D’Agostino and two others showed up. One of D’Agostino’s acquaintances named “Shane” bragged about how he kicked people in the head.
