The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
Appreciating the growing diversity in our town and respecting each other's differences as neighbors; more specifically, being able to agree, to disagree...without being disagreeable. Upon earning the votes for a South Windsor Town Council seat, I will establish bi-weekly "table talk conversations." These conversations will involve the residents in our town from a variety of different and similar backgrounds. This way we can talk openly and honestly to find common ground between backgrounds such as: stay-at-home parents, small business owners, part-time workers, full time workers, retirees, seniors, students, just to name a few - regardless of any specific affiliation. We have to find a way to get back to the things that make us stronger together, and as one town; to support the betterment of all of the residents of South Windsor.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
With my diverse background, I'm able to see and discuss different points of view from a variety of lived experiences. I've lived and worked with various people, backgrounds and cultures, in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, and now Connecticut. I've been able to relate and identify with numerous individuals regardless of where they've come from, or where they're at, or where they'd like to be. I pride myself on being a relationship builder and listening to people's thoughts and feedback in the hopes of coming to a mutually beneficial conclusion. More importantly, and I am willing to compromise when the end goal is for the betterment of our whole town.
Accomplishments:
In the "for profit" world, as an Executive Recruiter, I built relationships worked with and closed smart financial deals with individuals from part-time employees all the way up to the C-Level in Fortune 500 companies. For over 25+ years in sales and marketing, my success has been documented as someone who listened to all points of view and has consistently looked to give parties a mix of what they want and what they really may need.
In the "not for profit" sector, for entities such as Alpha Phi Alpha & the BSL Educational Foundation, I have led and managed multiple teams at the international level; and I have personally built relationships that have raised over $125, 000 in profits, while helping to supply resources to give out over 375 scholarship grants to middle school & high school students to support their future goals.
In our local community, I was a Travel Coach for the South Windsor Soccer Club for 4 seasons and developed a bond with those diverse group of young boys and their families that still exists today. This opportunity, in particular, and was a valuable experience that led me to involve myself in this race for a Town Council seat.
Other issues:
The vision is that South Windsor should and will: 1) Be a SAFE place for all to live and flourish together as one community, 2) Have a SMART growth plan for our small businesses to thrive, and 3) Develop a SUSTAINABLE foundation for it's family's futures.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I believe: 1) that powerful change occurs when people look to Advance as ONE, towards a common goal; 2) that we can build a stronger Town for all of our residents, and because (not in spite) of all of our differences; and 3) that we need to remember that we are all in this together - for the betterment of our future generations.
