SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted in the coming weeks.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • The Honors Program at Eastern Connecticut State University recognized 19 graduating seniors at its annual reception this past May in the University's J. Eugene Smith Library. The event celebrates students who completed an honors thesis, the program's capstone requirement. Among those honored was Kyle Garneau of South Windsor, who majors in political science and business administration. Garneau's thesis is titled "What Causes Political Extremism: Donald Trump and the Case of Political Opportunity."
  • Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its Dean's List for the spring 2023 semester, in which nearly 1,300 students were recognized for maintaining high GPAs.
    South Windsor students and their majors are Kyle Garneau, political science and business administration; Taylor Machholz, mathematics and elementary education; Nicole Leyner, early childhood education and English; Mitchell Bagcal, communication; Kyle Berson, business administration; Adam Brozowski, accounting; Olivia Chaisson, health sciences; Angela Clark, criminology; Elise Clark , art; Rachel Drouin, English; Ali Ezedine, psychology; Lindsay Fishman, health sciences; Mason Hassler, labor relations/human resources management; Jenna Jacques, social work; Jalen Junious, computer science; Sofia Lomba, art; Aaron Matu, mathematics; Sarah Mazzaro, finance; Camila Josefa Nobr, new media studies; Juliana Pasakarnis, business administration; and Melissa Poinelli, communication. To qualify for Dean's List, full-time students must complete a minimum of 12 credits in letter-graded courses with an average GPA of 3.5 or higher in the semester.

New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury NY

  • Arhana Avinash Naik of South Windsor was named to the spring 2023 Presidential Honor List at New York Institute of Technology. To qualify for the Presidential Honor List, a student must achieve a minimum semester GPA of 3.7 and complete at least 12 credit hours without any incomplete grades.

Purchase College, Purchase NY

  • Kevin Mead of South Windsor has been named to Purchase College's Dean's List for the spring 2023 semester. Mead is studying New Media. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must carry a semester GPA of 3.5 for Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs and 3.75 for Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Music Performance programs. They must take a minimum of 12 credits.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester NY

  • Kevin Augustine of South Windsor graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.

University of Maryland, College Park MD

  • Micaela Hanson of South Windsor made the dean's list for the spring 2023 semester. She is double majoring in journalism and political science.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

  • The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce the spring 2023 Dean's List, including South Windsor residents Carly Cassettari, Riley Castle, Sean Georgiades, Owen Jeram, Dominic Russo, Hannah Sweet, Kellie Ward and Sean Woods. To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • Western New England University recently named over 570 students to the spring semester 2023 Dean's List, including two from South Windsor. Jason Alwang is majoring in communication/media & journalism, and Charles Bemis is majoring in finance.

William James College, Newton MA

  • Taulant Malo of South Windsor has successfully graduated with a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology as a member of William James College's class of 2023. The college held commencement proceedings on June 12 for students and their families at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
