1. 9 South Windsor Students Named National Merit Semifinalists (patch.com) — South Windsor families have reason to celebrate as nine South Windsor High School seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top 1 percent of students nationwide. These seniors will now submit detailed applications, essays, recommendations, and confirming test scores as they compete for thousands of prestigious scholarships to be awarded in 2027.
   

2. 125 Apartments Proposed At Former Geissler's Plaza (patch.com) — South Windsor residents could see big changes at the former Geissler's plaza on Sullivan Avenue, where a developer is again proposing 125 apartments and renovated retail space. A new wetlands application has been filed, triggering an October public hearing and marking another key step in a long-running redevelopment effort that has already involved zoning approvals and a negotiated sidewalk compromise.
   

3. To Flock or not to Flock: South Windsor hears from all sides before action could be taken in coming weeks (fox61.com) — South Windsor officials are weighing whether to keep or change the town's Flock license plate reader program after a packed council meeting where residents raised privacy, cost, and data security concerns. Police Chief Kristian Lindstrom defended the eight cameras as vital for solving crimes and locating vulnerable people, while town leaders signaled they may wait for new state guidelines before taking action at their Sept. 21 meeting.
   

4. New I-291 Traffic Pattern Coming To Windsor (patch.com) — Drivers traveling between South Windsor and Windsor on I-291 will see a new traffic pattern on the westbound Bissell Bridge, as the lane closure shifts from the left to the right side while remaining one lane. The change is part of a multi-year, $16.874 million rehabilitation project on the bridge over the Connecticut River, so South Windsor commuters should expect ongoing adjustments and slowdowns.
