[Photo Gallery] The Longest Dinner Table in South Windsor
The sixth annual event drew some 200 people to raise money for the South Windsor Public Education Fund.
Over 200 people - most of whom were in costume - attended 6th annual The Longest Dinner Table, the South Windsor Public Education Fund’s largest fundraiser, on Saturday evening at Rockville Bank Park at the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk.
Table themes included one from last year’s October Nor’easter (which had an MRE, a generator, canned food and firewood); a Civil War encampment entitled “Shades of Gray”; and Candyland, which had, among other things, a bowl of orange circus peanuts candy that no one - NO ONE, Sue Jackson - likes.
The band Locomotion played live music to add to the festivities, as people dined on food that they brought themselves.
In addition to the people paid $25 apiece to attend, several local businesses and residents made significant donations, including USA Recycling ($1,000), Rockville Bank Foundation ($500), South Windsor Rotary ($500), New England Silica ($500), Camp Bow Wow ($500), Karen and Cary Prague ($250), Brian and Mary Ann McAndrew ($250), Roy and Nancy Normen ($250) and Aldi Corporation ($250).
The event raised about $12,000 to $15,000, according to Liza Love, the chairwoman of the South Windsor Public Education Fund.
“It’s a great community event,” Love said.
