Police: Property Damaged, Two Hospitalized in Sunday Morning Accidents
A recap of Sunday morning's ice storm.

From the South Windsor Police Department
South Windsor Police responded to numerous accidents on Sunday morning, January 18th along John Fitch Blvd (Route 5). The roadway conditions changed to ice at about 10:00 a.m. and 7 motor vehicle accidents occurred on Route 5 between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Most of the accidents involved property damage only but at least 2 operators were transported to hospitals for minor injuries.
Route 5 is a state road and is maintained by State D.O.T. crews. The challenging weather conditions on Sunday stretched the State resources thin and we were fortunate that our town highway crews were able to salt the roadway to make it safe for emergency vehicles and tow trucks to respond to the crashes.

Kudos to our South Windsor Public Works staff who came in early Sunday morning to treat the town roads, and came back in Sunday night to treat them a second time due to the heavy rainfall. Their efforts made it safe for travel and for the police, fire and medical crews to respond to calls for service.
