The South Windsor Town Council voted to drop the mill rate for the first time since 2017.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Two years after a mill rate hike to 38.50, residents of South Windsor will have the tax rate lowered for the 2020-21 fiscal year, as the town council recently voted to decrease the rate to 37.88, or 1.62 percent.
The council voted in mid-May to approve a 2020-21 budget of $124,252,621. Of that, 60.7 percent is allocated to the Board of Education, which was the same funding the school board received in 2019-20.
Public safety funding increased 5.41 percent to just over $10.15 million, while the general government allotment rose 5.57 percent to $4.46 million. A very modest 1 percent increase was provided to the public works department, which will operate on a budget of just over $8.9 million.
