UPDATE: South Windsor Blizzard 2015: Latest Forecast, Garbage Collection Delays and More

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The National Weather Service is predicting accumulations of around 1 to 2 feet with snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches an hour at times.

  • Overnight: Snow with areas of blowing snow. Low around 16. Wind chill values as low as zero. Blustery, with a north wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible.
  • Tuesday: Snow with areas of blowing snow before 3pm, then snow likely with areas of blowing snow after 3pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 20. Wind chill values as low as zero. Blustery, with a north wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 10 to 14 inches possible.
  • Tuesday Night: A chance of snow, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -3. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

A blizzard warning remains in effect beginning from 7 p.m. tonight until 1 a.m. Wednesday, which the National Weather Service predicts could dump between 20-30 inches of snow.

The good news, if there is any, is that while snow showers begin after 2 p.m. there will be less than one inch of snow accumulation during the day today.

The evening commute home from work should be fine.

The heaviest snow and winds are expected beginning after midnight and continuing until Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the heavy snow and strong winds will result in white-out blizzard conditions with near zero visibility.

“Travel will be impossible and life-threatening across the entire region,” the National Weather Service predicts. “Also snow may be wet enough to result in downed tree limbs and power outages in addition to the wind.”

Winds will be blowing between 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour.
