Board of Education. (Since 2018)
The single most pressing issue facing our town/district is _______, and
this is what I intend to do about it.
Our student population is growing at a rate of 11 percent, far and above anyone in our region. This requires effective planning and preparation to ensure the quality of education in this town isn't sacrificed to handle the incoming student population. We must handle this growth without undue pressure on the tax payers by efficiently using our current revenue base. I will continue to advocate for responsible spending that doesn’t sacrifice our education, but instead enhances it while embracing our growing population.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates
seeking this post?
I am a collaborator by nature. I do not possess all the answers, and those that claim they do aren't focused on their own growth, but instead their own ego. I will work with all parties involved to make the right decisions for our students, our schools, our tax payers, and our town. The ways of divisive politics are not for me—we are neighbors and we must work as a community to embrace change and prepare the next generation to lead.
List other issues that define your campaign platform
The referendum to build a new Pleasant Valley School. Adequate fields for our student athletes.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have been on the negotiation committee for new SWEA and SWAA (teachers and administrators) contracts. I have also gone through executive management training in the banking world in addition to my MBA. I focus on how all the dominos fall, and not just short termed solutions and impact.
The best advice ever shared with me was ...
If you know something has to be done, find a way to do it. Don't push it off and hope you'll figure it out later.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your
positions?
My wife and children are more important to me than anyone. So I lead on the Board of Education keeping in mind what is best for teachers and students, because just like my family, they are someone else's most important part of their world. How can we create a better environment to teach? To learn? And how can we do it without a blank check? Because money we spend inefficiently now, will only be a debt to our children's generation.
