If you’ve ever attended a Timothy Edwards Middle School field hockey game, you know they have several team cheers. TOGETHER RELENTLESS is one you will hear at the start of every game.
On Thursday, October 3, a beautiful fall afternoon, the TEMS Field Hockey Team was TOGETHER RELENTLESS. The team sponsored their annual fundraiser to help one of their own ---Mr. Tom Savage, a Timothy Edward’s Music Teacher. Play 4 Savage was the idea of Coaches, Sally Custer and Jen Hall.

This past summer, Mr. Savage found out he has esophageal cancer. His three daughters have established the Sing For Savage Foundation to help others in need at the St. Francis Hospital Oncology Center who many need additional financial help while undergoing cancer treatment. The Sing for Savage Foundation has already donated $2,000 to this Patient Care Fund through the sale of blue Sing for Savage bracelets and blue Sing for Savage tee shirts.
The TEMS field hockey team’s coaches, along with parent volunteer, Christine Hanchuk, coordinated parents, and teachers to bake and donate raffle prizes. Over 30 items were raffled off at the October 3rd event, and the baked goods all sold out by the end of the game. TEMS competed against Avery Middle School of Somers. Tom Savage’s youngest daughter is a sixth grade player on the Avery Middle School team.

“What a wonderful event, with hundreds of students, teachers and people in the community, attending, “ stated Chrisine Hanchuk. “I am so thankful for the support and generosity of so many people.” Over $5,500 was raised which will benefit the St. Francis Hospital Patient Care Fund for those undergoing cancer treatment and need additional funds to help defray the cost of medical expenses.
Mr. Tom Savage, attended the event, visiting with past and present students whom he has taught. “I am in awe of the support and the attendance today….I am speechless”, Mr. Savage stated.
The team would like to thank all the students, staff, families, and community members that came out to the game to support the team in their fundraising efforts.
TOGETHER RELENTLESS rings true as they have now shown what coming together for a common cause can do and what they can accomplish. Congratulations for a job well done in fundraising for Play 4 Savage and fundraising for the Sing for Savage Foundation! Together you certainly are relentless!
