Car With Toddler Aboard Slams Into 2 Poles In Stafford

STAFFORD, CT — A suspected drunken driver with a 2-year-old in his car took out a pair of utility poles in Stafford on New Year's Day, state police said.

The crash took place at 6:56 p.m., according to a state police crash report.

According to the accident report, state police were alerted to a crash on Route 190 about a mile east of the resident trooper's office. Responding personnel located a 2006 Toyota Corolla on the eastbound shoulder with two utility poles leaning over the top of the car, according to the accident report.

The 37-year-old driver failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence, first-degree reckless endangerment and failure to drive upon right, according to an arrest report.

The child suffered a "minor" cut to the forehead and was transported to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, state police said.
