Car With Wood Sticking Out Of It Alerts Cops To Stafford Crash

State police were alerted to a Stafford crash by a car with wood sticking out of it, a report indicates.

STAFFORD, CT — A car with a flat tire, a smashed windshield and a piece of wood sticking out of it led to the deduction that it was involved in a strange crash in Stafford early Thursday afternoon, state police said.

The crash was reported at 12:40 p.m. near 22 West Stafford Road, the local name for that stretch of Route 190.

A car was spotted driving with a piece of wood sticking out of its front grille, according to a report. Troopers then noticed the driver, an 80-year-old man from Stafford, was driving in a flat tire with a smashed windshield, accordinvg to a report. The man was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital Hospital for evaluation, according top a report.

The car, a 2017 Honda CRV, was heading east on Route 190 and struck three state Department of Transporation signs, four mailboxes on wooden posts and large rock off the right shoulder, according to a report.

The crash is still being in investigated, state police said.
