UNION, CT — A Manchester woman was airlifted to Hartford Hospital Tuesday evening after a car hit a tree on the northernmost section of Interstate 84, state police said.

The incident took place at 7:53 p.m., according to a crash report.

A 2000 Subaru Outback with a 34-year-old Manchester woman behind the wheel was on the I-84 eastbound off-ramp when it suddenly veered off the pavement, according to a crash report. The car skidded along a grassy area off the shoulder and then hit a tree in a gore, according to a crash report.

The driver had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters and she was taken to Hartford hospital with serious injuries by LifeStar helicopter, according to a crash report.

A passenger, a 41-year-old New Britain man, was taken to Hartford Hospital via Willington Ambulance with suspected minor injuries, according to a crash report.
