STAFFORD, CT — A car being driven by a suspected drunken driver squirmed its way from atop a guardrail on Route 30 in Stafford before breaking down a short distance away early Thanksgiving morning, state police said.

At 12:02 a.m., a 2001 Nissan Xterra being driven by a 55-year-old Coventry woman was heading south on Route 30 near the Conklin Road intersection, according to a state police crash report. The vehicle suddenly veered to the left, traversed the road and wound up on top of a metal guardrail, according to a crash report.

The driver managed to free the vehicle from the guardrail and continued a short distance before it broke down in the southbound shoulder, according to a crash report.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence. She was not injured, state police said.
