Driver Offers To Be Handcuffed Before Questioning At Stafford Crash
Police were welcomed by a man surrendering to a DUI charge at the scene of a crash in Stafford

STAFFORD, CT — A man at the scene of a parking lot car crash in Stafford offered himself up to be handcuffed before police even questioned him, an arrest report shows.
At about 8 p.m. on April 1, state police responded to a minor car crash at the Mill Pond Country Store, 220 East St., in Stafford. When troopers arrived, they were met by a man, who, "voluntarily and without instruction," put his hands behind his back in a "handcuff position," according to an arrest report.
Troopers determined the 44-year-old East Hartford man was intoxicated and charged him with second-offense driving under the influence and unsafe backing.

The man was initially held on a $50,000 bond. When he appeared in curt, it was reduced to $15,000, which he still did not post, according to judicial system records. He is duye back in court on May 8, records show.
