STAFFORD, CT — A 30-year-old Stafford man has a court date next week to answer charges related to him taking the registration plates off his vehicle and fleeing the scene of a crash on a local dirt road, state police said.

The incident took place at 12:01 a.m. on May 7, according to a state police crash report. A 1999 Chevrolet Blazer was headed south on the unpaved portion of Racker Road near Evergreen Lane in Stafford and the SUV wound up against a tree, according to a crash report.

The driver removed the plates from it and left the scene, according to a crash report.

He later admitted he was scared, state police said. He was not hurt, according to a crash report.

The driver is due in court on May 21, records show.
