Stafford Speedway Event Example Of 'Respectful' Car Gathering: Cops

STAFFORD, CT — State police are using a recent event at Stafford Motor Speedway to illustrate a "respectful" gathering of custom cars.

North central Connecticut has been plagued by "street takeover" incidents in recent weeks, namely in Tolland and Vernon. There is also an active murder case out of Manchester involving a 2020 gathering of customized vehicles.

A June 11 event was done right, according to the Stafford Resident State Trooper's Office.

"We would like to thank Stafford Motor Speedway and Wicked Big Meet for the overwhelmingly respectful gathering of thousands of people and vehicles in our town yesterday," a social media post said.

Because of the event's size, extra patrols were assigned to both the speedway and around town for this event, state police said. Between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. that day, 45 calls were received for police services in Stafford, zero involving the event, state police said. A total of 39 calls were "proactive policing including patrol checks and traffic stops," state police said.

There was one minor vehicle crash with no injuries involving a mini van and a pickup truck duirng that time frame, state police said.
