STAFFORD, CT — A speeding teen is facing a drunken driving charge after he and his passengers fled the scene of a rollover crash in Stafford last week, state police said.

According to state police crash and arrest reports, the incident took place at 10:35 p.m. on April 11. A 2007 Honda accord with an 18-year-old behind the wheel was heading west on Route 190 at a high rate of speed, state policesaid. The teen over-corrected on a curve and the car fishtailed before hitting an embankment and flipping onto its roof, according to state police reports.

The teens were not hurt but they scattered as the car sat on its roof, according to state police reports.

One teen passenger was apparently picked up by another vehicle and another passenger, who is listed as 19 years old, emerged from nearby woods to surrender to troopers at the scene. He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with police and second-degree breach of peace, according to state police reports.

The driver was tracked down by police dog Apollo and taken into custody, according to a crash report. He was charged with DUI with a blood alcohol level of at least .02 at younger than 21, evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle (weapon undefined), possession of alcohol by a minor and interfering with police records show.
