Willington Resident Killed In Head-On Crash In Mansfield

State Police have released details on Tuesday's fatal crash in Mansfield.

MANSFIELD, CT — A Willington resident was killed in a Mansfield traffic accident Tuesday.

State police Wednesday morning released a report on the crash. The accident took place at 10:25 a.m.

According to a state police crash report, a 2022 GMC Sierra pickup truck being driven by a 42-year-old Lebanon man, was heading south on Route 32, known locally as Stafford Road, near the Mansfield City Road intersection. A 2012 Volkswagen Jetta being driven by a 39-year-old Willington woman, was heading north, according to a crash report.

State police said in a report that the Jetta crossed the yellow line and hit the truck head-on in the southbound lane. The driver of the Jetts, identified as Vanessa Rivero, of Willington, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report was delayed while state police were notifying next of kin. The driver of the truck was taken to Windham hospital my Mansfield Ambulance with minor injuries, according to a crash report.
