Wiper Malfunction Leads To Fire Department Sign Being Hit in Stafford
A wild crash in Stafford started with a bad set of windshield wipers, state police said.

STAFFORD, CT — A faulty windshield wiper system is being blamed for a pinball-like crash that eventually led to a vehicle hitting a fire department sign in Stafford, according to state police.
The March 14 crash started when, at 3:49 p.m., a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on West Stafford Road. Its wipers stopped working, and the driver, a 31-year-old man from Somers, tried to pull into the West Stafford Fire Department lot, according to a crash report.
The Tahoe, however, hit an oncoming 2022 Hyundai Tuscon driven by a 50-year0old Manchester man and pushed the Tuscon into the West Stafford Fire Department entryway sign, according to a crash report.
