2018 Marie Hurley Travel Lecture Featuring Daryl Hawk

Daryl Hawk will present Distant Journeys, a 30 year retrospective of color images from around the world, at The Ferguson Library.

Join explorer and international documentary photographer Daryl Hawk for Distant Journeys, a 30 year retrospective of color images from around the world, at the 2018 Marie Hurley Travel Lecture on Sunday, October 14 at 2 p.m. at The Ernest A. DiMattia, Jr. Building of The Ferguson Library.

For the past 30 years, Daryl Hawk has traveled alone to some of the most remote and isolated places in the world telling stories with his camera. For Distant Journeys, 300 of Hawk’s favorite images from North, Central and South America, Cuba, Patagonia, the Arctic, Antarctica, India, Ladakh, Bhutan, New Zealand will be shown as he shares stories and important lessons he has learned from his travels.

Mr. Hawk said of the Distant Journeys presentation, “This is a very meaningful and exciting show for me. It is hard to believe that 30 years have gone by – so many adventures and unforgettable experiences. Every photo has a story and the most important lesson that I have learned as I continue to document the world is that people from all countries share the same basic needs and desires.” With a visually interpretive style, Hawk tries to capture the heart and soul of a country on film, depicting the characteristics of the landscapes, as well as the timeless moments and passions of the people.
