After 7 Years, Full-Service Boatyard Opened On Stamford Harbor

Some frustration reportedly remains over the fact that it took so long to re-open.

STAMFORD, CT — Hinckley Boat Yard, a full-service marina and boatyard on Stamford Harbor, officially opened over the weekend, a a new facility following a seven-year wait after the closing of Brewer’s Yacht Haven West in 2011, reports the Greenwich Time.

The new boat yard, by the Hinckley Yacht Services site off Selleck Street in the city's South End, has a fueling dock, slips, boat lift and storage, and painting and other capabilities. It is smaller that the former Yacht Haven facility in terms of storage and slips, according to the publication.

Returning a full-service yard to that area was a long time in coming, following various fits and starts over the past several years. Stamford Mayor David Martin was able to broker a compromise between developer Building and Land Technology and the city's Zoning Board to build the facility.

But some residents and local boating industry advocates remain frustrated by the lengthy process and the demolition of the former yard, which catered to all manner of boaters, not just the high-end boaters Hinckley attracts. A lawsuit, filed by SoundKeeper over the issue, is still pending.
