Police said they received reports of shots fired in the area of Dale Street and Ursula Place around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. Officers responded and located a woman, later identified as Shernetta Dunmore, 35, of Stamford, in a parking lot at the Ursula Place Housing Complex, police said.

In a statement Monday, police said Dunmore was struck by "numerous gunshots" and taken to Stamford Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Additionally, two Stamford men, ages 27 and 43, were injured after being shot in their "lower extremities," police said.

On Sunday, Capt. Richard Conklin said the shots broke out while about 30 or 40 people were "milling around" the parking lot.

"A large amount of rounds [were] expended," Conklin said. "We recovered a lot of casings at the scene, and we're continuing to process the location."

Conklin said many people who were part of the large crowd gathered at the parking lot fled before officers arrived.

Police said investigators are reviewing surveillance video footage from the area.

"This case remains very active," police said in a statement. "This investigation has clearly established that there are many witnesses."

Anyone who was present during the shooting or has any information about it is asked to contact Stamford police at 203-977-4417.
