Boaters, Kayaker Rescued By Stamford Firefighters: FD

Stamford firefighters recently rescued a group of stranded boaters and a kayaker in two separate incidents.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford firefighters recently rescued a group of stranded boaters and a kayaker in distress. In a statement, Deputy Chief Patrick Tripodi said the first incident occurred Friday when a small boat, located near the Stamford lighthouse, called the department for assistance after "experiencing difficulties" on the water.

A fireboat responded to the area and found the three boaters on some rocks, with their boat nearby, Tripodi said. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"The boaters were brought aboard the fireboat and their vessel was towed back to the dock," Tripodi said in a statement. "The boaters were not injured."

The second incident occurred Monday afternoon, at which time the department received a report of a "kayaker in distress" on a breakwall off Greenway Island, Tripodi said.

The department's fireboat and SCUBA rescue units responded to Cove Island Park, along with Stamford EMS and police, and spotted the kayaker from the shore, Tripodi said.

The kayaker was then safely brought on board a fireboat and taken to medics at the West Beach dock, Tripodi said. The department did not provide details on the kayaker's condition.
