Stamford Teen in Critical Care Unit After Friday Night Crash [Update]
Four others transported to Stamford Hospital for lesser injuries.

Police say a two-car accident Friday night at the intersection of Newfield and Oaklawn avenues resulted in an 18-year-old city resident being admitted to Stamford Hospital's Critical Care Unit.
Reported at 8:39 p.m., police say the wreck occurred when a 2003 Honda CRV SUV that was attempting to turn left from Oaklawn Avenue onto Newfield Avenue collided with a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling southbound on Newfield.
Police say the Honda struck the passenger side of the Mitsubishi, causing it to rotate clockwise until the driver’s side impacted a utility pole.

The teen driving the Mitsubishi, George Tobat, of 18 Plymouth Rd., had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters using Hurst tools. Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher said he remained in the hospital Saturday afternoon.
His passenger, Ernesto Gonzalez, 17, of Myano Court, was treated at the hospital and released.

Police say the Honda was being operated by Diana Sofia, 36, of Newfield Avenue. She and her passengers, her one-year-old daughter and Michele Andujar, 20, of White Plains, NY, were also treated at the and released.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the accident.
