The Stamford Art Association is pleased to
present, in person, “1918 / 2020 COLLAGES : Working
Through the Pandemic Time Zone”, an exhibition of
collages by members Susan McHale and Dana McHale, of Greenwich, CT. For
Susan and her daughter Dana it started with the discovery of a
load of old Farmer's Almanacs and daguerreotypes at a flea market in Maine.
Susan and Dana had been making collages throughout the Covid 19 2020-21 shut
downs and isolation for fun and entertainment. They started to make collages
with the theme of The 1918 Pandemic, but with modern twists. It was a way for
them to filter out the bad and bring in the fresh air, using images to bring
together history and creativity.

The Farmer's Almanac became a way of imagining the
past for them. “We tried to imagine the day to day lives of people during the
period and to empathize with them. Some images are from our own or family
photos, others from Google, but repurposed or changed, cut and pasted, painted
over and recycled. Making collages helped us through the darkest days of the
pandemic.” according to Susan McHale.

The exhibition can be view in person on Saturdays and
Sundays from September 4th – 26th from noon to 3:00 PM at the Stamford Art
Association Townhouse Gallery. For appointments at other times please call
203-912-6570. The Townhouse Gallery is located at 39 Franklin Street, Stamford,
CT 06901. To view the exhibition digitally https://www.1918anotherpandemi...

Now in it’s 50th
year established in 1971 in a circa 1874 historical townhouse*, the Stamford Art
Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization whose members include painters,
sculptors, printmakers, photographers and multimedia artists. We host an
international exhibit, the Faber Birren Color Award Show, and a High School
Student Show for Fairfield County students. All artists, not just members, are
welcome to submit their work for exhibits. Annual competitions draw submissions
from local, regional, and national artists. The Stamford Art Association is
supported by grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, the City of
Stamford and the Kuriansky Foundation and generous donations from individual
artists and friends.

Since its inception, the SAA continues to serve the community and has grown to include
students from Fairfield County High Schools with an annual exhibition. The SAA
gallery is used to exhibit local and national works, providing a richness that
is reflected in the variety of mediums and backgrounds of the ever changing
association. The gallery is open free to the general public.

*Due to the
historical nature of the Townhouse Gallery, visitors and artists should be
