New Details In Stamford House Explosion
Two people and four dogs escaped but two pets are unaccounted for, Stamford fire officials said.

STAMFORD, CT — An explosion at a Stamford house Saturday caused the structure to collapse and two family pets remain unaccounted for, Deputy fire Chief John Pritchard said.
A neighbor called 911 at 7:20 a.m. Saturday reporting a house on Woodbine Road had exploded and was on fire. The homeowners and four dogs escaped. The force of the explosion essentially blew out the fire, officials said.
Stamford fire Engine #8 was first to arrive and the crew found heavy smoke coming from the house at 105 Woodbine Rd. The house was partially collapsed in multiple areas and the structure had shifted off of its foundation, officials said.

"The force of the explosion essentially blew the fire out and little extinguishment efforts were necessary," Pritchard said. "Due to the massive structural damage the Incident Command Team made the decision not to place the lives of first responders at undue risk and no entry to the house was permitted."
Eversource cut power to the house. The area is without fire hydrants and firefighters used tankers from the Turn of River and Long Ridge fire departments for their water supply.
