Final Lawsuit Settled In Fatal Stamford Christmas Fire: Report

Madonna Badger's daughters and parents were killed in the 2011 fire.

STAMFORD, CT — The final of several lawsuits filed by Madonna Badger, the mother whose three daughters and parents were killed in a 2011 Christmas Day fire in Stamford, has been settled, reports the Stamford Advocate.

The monetary value of the final lawsuit, $150,000, was to pay Badger's attorneys, according to the publication, but the crux of the settlement concentrates on new legislation which the city has agreed to enact. Two other lawsuits settled in the case required the city to pay out about $8 million.

In the future, state fire marshals will be contacted whenever there is a fatal residential fire in Stamford, under the new legislation. And the physical properties in such cases will not be demolished until the homeowner is notified. Additionally, all fire hydrants in Stamford will be outfitted with reflectors for better visibility.
