Stamford Settles Two More Shippan Fire Lawsuits
The city has now settled three separate lawsuits.

STAMFORD, CT — The City of Stamford announced that it has settled two more lawsuits related to the fatal Shippan Avenue fire that killed three children and two adults.
Madonna Badger, the mother of the three children killed and daughter of two adults filed a lawsuit in federal court. Another lawsuit was filed for the estate of her parents Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
"The City is sympathetic to the catastrophic losses suffered as a result of this fire," the city, Badger and estate of the Johnsons said in a joint statement. "The litigation has now been resolved and in addition to the financial settlement, the City and Madonna Badger have agreed that the City will seek the adoption of certain ordinances that will improve public safety and further safeguard the rights of individual citizens who might confront such tragedy in the future.”
The city also recently reached a settlement with the estate of girls Lily, Sarah and Grace Badger that was filed by their father Matthew. Matthew passed away earlier this year and his brother became administrator of the state.
Matthew Badger's lawsuit alleged that city officials directed the home to be demolished and debris to be carried away just days after the fire, which made further investigation impossible. That lawsuit too ended without reflecting admission of liability or fault on the part of anyone.
