Five-Car Crash Caused By Intoxicated Driver: Stamford PD
One victim sustained a fractured spine, police said.
STAMFORD, CT — A 44-year-old man was arrested after he caused a five-car crash while heavily intoxicated, according to police.
Police observed a vehicle being recklessly operated on June 18 in the area of Broad and Grey Rock Place. It was later found out the vehicle had caused a crash in the area and was fleeing the scene, police said.
The vehicle caused a five-car serious crash in the area of East Main Street and Quintard Terrace as police searched for the vehicle. The operator and passenger of the vehicle tried to flee the scene on foot after the crash.

Police caught operator Elio Martinez and passenger Milton Cordero, 40. Martinez failed field sobriety tests and was found to be more than triple the legal BAC limit, police said.
East Main Street was shut down for several hours as the crash was investigated. The most seriously injured was a 53-year-old woman who sustained a fractured spine and other injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time. Another person was released Sunday night from the hospital.

The investigation is revealing that Martinez and Cordero were travelling in their vehicle in the downtown area after drinking all day. They struck a vehicle near Grey Rock Pl and departed the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle travelled east on East Main St where they struck the most serious injured victim in the rear end while she was stopped for the red light at East Main St/North State St.
That catapulted her vehicle into westbound traffic where it was hit by another vehicle. The offending vehicle continued on and rear ended two other vehicles before coming to a complete stop with the occupants attempting to flee the scene.
At H.Q’s Martinez’s BAC was over triple the legal limit of .08. Martinez was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Assault 2nd with a M/V, Reckless Operation, Evading Responsibility, Interfering with Police, No License and Operating with No Insurance. A $100,000 bond was levied on Martinez. Also, Officers discovered that he has a Failure to Appear 2nd warrant for an OUI in Sept 2011 in which he did not show up to court. The bond on the warrant was an additional $2500. Cordero was charged with Interfering with Police and a $500 bond was levied on him.
