High Ridge Road Bridge Renovation Begins
Residents should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.
STAMFORD, CT — Beginning Monday, Dec. 6, Phase 1 of the High Ridge Road Bridge renovation by the Merritt Parkway will begin.
One northbound lane will be closed, so residents should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.
According to the project description from the City of Stamford, the bridge was found to be structurally deficient, having a poor super structure condition rating. The bridge was originally constructed in 1931 and widened in 1974.

The proposed bridge will accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction, a new southbound dedicated right turn lane and a new five-foot sidewalk along the northbound lane.
The new sidewalk will improve walkability and pedestrian safety and will contribute to the overall pedestrian network. Additionally, the state of Connecticut will pay for the installation of a new city-owned traffic signal at the intersection of High Ridge Road and the Merritt Parkway southbound on/off ramp.
