STAMFORD, CT — Stamford police said they recovered over 12 grams of fentanyl and other drugs Tuesday night following the arrest of a 34-year-old New York City man.

Anthony Mojica, of the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics, two counts of possession with intent to sell and possession of a hallucinogen. He was given a $25,000 bond.

Capt. Richard Conklin of the Stamford Police Department said the narcotics and organized crime squad recently received information that Mojica was in possession of fentanyl and selling it around Stamford.

"Our narcotics and organized crime squad has been investigating fentanyl sales within our community," Conklin said. "Unfortunately, we've been dealing with some overdoses, and even some fatal overdoses."

Around 5:30 p.m., on Oct. 25, Mojica was walking in the area of the 200 block of Bedford Street when he was stopped by officers, Conklin said.

Officers searched Mojica's backpack, and found a clear bag containing 11.4 grams of fentanyl in powder form, along with three glassine folds containing 1.1 grams of fentanyl, Conklin said.

Additionally, Conklin noted officers found 10 oxycodone pills, $220 in cash and a plastic bag containing psilocybin mushrooms — commonly referred to as magic mushrooms. The oxycodone pills will be tested to see if they're counterfeit and contain fentanyl.

Conklin said Mojica's phone was also seized, and it will be forensically analyzed to see if Mojica is linked to past fentanyl overdoses in Stamford.

"This was another timely arrest by our narcotics and organized crime squad. Fentanyl has been such a problem in our city," Conklin added. "It's certainly good to make a quality arrest like this."

Mojica is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 8.
