Loaded Handgun Found Hidden Outside In Stamford: Police

STAMFORD, CT — Police are investigating after officers found a loaded handgun outside on the city's east side early Sunday morning.

Capt. Richard Conklin said an officer received information about a discarded gun behind a Dale Street residence around 2 a.m. Police then searched the area and located a 0.22 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun hidden in some leaves. Conklin said police will check the gun for DNA and fingerprints to see if they can figure out who the owner is.

"[The gun] was loaded, and it was laying outside on the ground," Conklin said to Patch. "God forbid if some children or someone from the community were to locate it, there could have been an accident."

Anyone with information about the discarded gun is asked to contact the department's detective bureau at 203-977-4417. Conklin also asks any resident who locates a discarded gun to leave it where it is and contact police immediately.
