Man Charged With Manslaughter In Shooting Death Of Stamford Woman: PD

Police said a 41-year-old man is facing an additional charge in connection with the 2022 shooting death of his girlfriend in Stamford.

STAMFORD, CT — Following a lengthy investigation involving forensic evidence, the Stamford Police Department on Friday announced that Anthony Ray Vines, who has been in custody for over a year in connection with the September 2022 shooting death of Mary Stephanie Guirand in a Stamford apartment, has been charged with first-degree manslaughter with a firearm.

Vines, 41, is a convicted felon and was originally charged with criminal possession of a firearm, police said. He was held on a $500,000 bond.

On Sept. 13, 2022, police received a call at approximately 9:45 p.m., from a man, later identified as Vines, who said he shot his girlfriend in their Woodside Green apartment and believed she was dead, police said.

An initial investigation found that Guirand, 36, was shot one time under the chin during what Vines described as a heated argument over the payment of a bill, police said.

"Vines has maintained that the shooting was an accident and that he had armed himself with a gun to stop Guirand from attempting to slash him with a kitchen knife," police said. "Both the knife and gun were recovered from the scene in the vicinity of Guirand's body."

Police said a long-term investigation based on forensic evidence revealed "several inconsistencies" with Vines' account of what happened.

An additional bond of $500,000 was placed on Vines for the new charge.
