STAMFORD, CT — The 31-year-old man who was seriously injured after a food truck collapsed on top of him last week has died from his injuries, according to an update from the Stamford Police Department.

Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin shared the update via an email late Monday afternoon.

Police said first responders were called to a home on West Avenue in Stamford around 7 p.m., on June 4 and found a man trapped underneath a Chevrolet dual-wheel food truck.

The man was working on the truck in the backyard and trying to drop the transmission, police said, noting the truck was lifted on a jack.

"Unfortunately, the vehicle fell on top of him," Conklin said. "He had had some conversations with a friend, and there was about a 20 minute lapse from when he was last heard from. [The friend] came back to the scene where they saw he was pinned under the vehicle."

Arriving units immediately performed CPR and the man was taken to the hospital in "grave condition," Conklin said.

Police warned residents about working on heavy equipment without proper supervision or safety measures in place.
