Body of Missing Stamford Resident Is Found

Stamford Police say the body of the man who's been missing for more than a month has been found.

Stamford Police report that the body of a Stamford resident who was reported missing more than a month ago was found Monday afternoon.

It was about 1 p.m. Monday that Stamford Police received a report of a body lying on a private beach on Rogers Road.

Police said in a statement Monday night, that “We found a deceased fully clothed (Hispanic male) lying on the beach. It appears that the victim had been submerged for some time but that there were no signs of trauma or foul play at this time.”

According to police, the victim had identification on him identifying him as 26-year-old Jorge Simon, who lived and worked in Stamford for the past seven years after emigrating from Guatemala.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on Tuesday, police said.

Simon was reported missing on Feb. 16 by family and friends after he did not return home for several days. Relatives had told police that Simon was out with friends and was last seen in the area of Stillwater Avenue and Finney Lane about 12:15 a.m. on Feb. 14. After receiving the report, Stamford Police conducted an extensive search of the area and utilized field searches including canine searches and an extensive media campaign.

In their statement, Stamford Police said, “Today, we express our condolences to the Simon family who, along with the police, valiantly attempted to search for Simon with friends and families from the Guatemalan community.

We hopefully will learn more after the autopsy is conducted but we will be narrowing our investigation on how Simon entered the water. We are asking the public if anyone has any information on how Simon traveled from Stillwater Avenue to the local water causeways to please notify the SPD detective bureau. All information will be kept confidential.”
