Police Crack Down On Speeding In Stamford

Police said they issued a number of speeding tickets to drivers in Stamford this week.

STAMFORD, CT — This week, the Stamford Police Department's traffic squad issued a number of speeding tickets over the course of two days. In a Facebook post Thursday, police said officers issued 29 motor vehicle infractions and 11 misdemeanor summonses in total.

Police also noted a driver must be driving 60 mph or higher to receive a misdemeanor summons. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"We need everyone to slow down," the post reads. "There are a lot more people out walking and kids on bicycles."

According to the post, those stopped by officers included a 17-year-old driver with a learner's permit who was caught driving over 65 mph.

Officers also stopped a 16-year-old driver with three passengers in a vehicle, which was caught driving over 80 mph on Long Ridge Road. Police noted the driver was not permitted to have any passengers in the vehicle.

"We ask for your help in keeping everyone safe," police said on Facebook. "Please slow down; it would be great if our traffic squad was bored."
