Timeline, New Details On When To Expect Ice On Friday In CT And How Much
The National Weather Service released new details on when the rain will turn to ice on Friday. A winter weather advisory is in effect.
CONNECTICUT — Heavy rain will transition to freezing rain beginning after 9 a.m. in northern parts of Connecticut and by early to mid-afternoon in southern Connecticut. The freezing rain will change to sleet in the afternoon hours, according to the National Weather Service.
Very little, if any, snow is forecast for Connecticut. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the entire state until 7 p.m. Friday. The weather service cautions that the evening commute may be hazardous due to icing concerns.
Most schools in the state have cancelled due to the looming ice concerns.

The weather service said the rain will change to freezing rain and sleet in southern Connecticut sometime after noon Friday and that the precipitation will end Friday evening, but it's possible in southeastern Connecticut that icy conditions may continue up until 10 p.m.
Up to two tenths of an inch of ice may accumulate in southern Connecticut, and possibly up to a quarter of an inch of ice in northern Connecticut.

The weekend looks dry but very cold with temperatures failing to reach the freezing mark.

I-95 corridor towns:
Today: Rain before 3pm, then freezing rain between 3pm and 5pm, then rain or freezing rain likely after 5pm. Temperature falling to around 30 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming north in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
Tonight: Freezing rain and sleet likely, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, with a low around 19. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Inland sections of southern Connecticut:
Today: Rain or freezing rain before 3pm, then freezing rain and sleet. Temperature falling to around 23 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tonight: A chance of freezing rain and sleet, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Northern Connecticut:
Today: Rain or freezing rain before 11am, then freezing rain and sleet. Patchy fog before 10am. Temperature falling to around 26 by 5pm. North wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
