Stamford Coronavirus Updates: City Has 508 Confirmed Cases
City officials said the number of cases reported by the state will likely increase as more testing and data tracking becomes available.

STAMFORD, CT — City officials announced Thursday evening there have been 508 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Stamford as of April 2, according to state Department of Public Health. That number is up from the 437 confirmed cases of the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, reported by the state a day prior, city officials said.

In response to "requests for identifying information about city employees," the city and Stamford Public Schools released a prepared statement that said they will not release specifics about individuals who test positive for the virus.

"In an effort to ensure the privacy of all staff members, contractors and their families, the city of Stamford and Stamford Public Schools will not release any specifics about individuals who have tested positive for the coronavirus," city and school officials said in a statement. "The city has an obligation to its employees to keep their healthcare information confidential under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Additionally, the city already has measures in place for notifying those at risk of exposure, and we are confident these measures maintain the public’s health and security. There is no benefit to releasing identifying information about individuals, no matter how general or specific."
Additionally, city officials announced the Board of Finance will hold a special meeting Thursday night via webinar. The meeting will approve guidelines for the 2020-2021 budget process and review the budget calendar, officials said.
