Stamford Fire Department Offering Free Smoke Detectors To Residents
The department urges residents to install smoke detectors in their homes this holiday season.
STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Fire Department urges residents to install smoke detectors in their homes this holiday season.
Fire risks are increased during winter months due to things like unattended candles and cooking, chimney fires, dry Christmas trees, electrical overloads, highly flammable decorations, and smoking materials that are carelessly discarded, the SFD said in a news release.
As a result, the department is offering free smoke detectors and installation to Stamford residents.

"Smoke detectors save lives. They provide the crucial early warning needed to escape a fire safely, especially during the holiday season when the risk of home fires increases. If you don’t have working smoke detectors in your home, now is the time to act," Stamford Fire Chief Robert Morris said in a news release.
If current smoke detectors are over 10 years old, they should be replaced, Morris added.
