At 1:38 p.m. on Jan. 24, the Stamford Combined 911 and Communications Center received a report of black smoke coming from a residence in the 170 block of Montauk Drive.

The main body of fire was located in a front second floor bedroom and was knocked down within two minutes of the initial attack, the SFD noted.

First responders were notified that one adult and three children were safely out of the home, but they also reported that their dog was still inside, the SFD said, noting the dog was rescued from the home but was in serious condition.

One adult and three children were relocated to a local hotel with assistance from the American Red Cross, the SFD said. The attached neighboring unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire and sustained minor damage.

Several days before the fire, members of Engine 9 had visited Roxbury School to instruct students on what steps to take in a fire emergency.

Zhyon remembered what he learned and helped his family stay low to the floor and get out quickly through the smoke.

A fund has been established on Zelle so the Brown family can replace some of their belongings. Donations can be made to 203-510-7615.
