Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons To Run For Re-Election: Report

Caroline Simmons became the first woman elected mayor in Stamford in 2021. She is seeking a second term in office, according to a report.

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons will run for re-election this fall, according to a report from the Stamford Advocate.

Simmons, 39, a Democrat, became the first woman elected mayor in Stamford in 2021 when she defeated unaffiliated candidate Bobby Valentine in a closely contested race. She succeeded Mayor David Martin, who lost a primary to Simmons in September 2021.

Before becoming Stamford's chief elected official, Simmons served as a state representative in Stamford's 144th District for seven years.

Prior to that, she worked at Yale University at Elevate: A Policy Lab to Elevate Mental Health and Disrupt Poverty, which is based out of the Yale School of Medicine, and at the Women’s Business Development Council in Stamford. She also worked in the Department of Homeland Security for several years.
