Stamford Mayor, City Officials Make Voluntary Salary Reductions
City officials said these salary reductions will result in approximately $200,000 in savings for next year's budget.

STAMFORD, CT —Mayor David Martin announced Thursday that he, along with all salaried elected officials and other city officials, will voluntarily take an "immediate reduction in current salaries." The decision, which comes as the city continues to grapple with the new coronavirus, entails rolling back salaries to the level set on July 1, 2018, Martin said.
According to a prepared statement from the city, those taking a salary reduction include all cabinet members, all special assistants, members of the police and fire departments, 911 command staff and other non-union members of the city's pay plan.
Additionally, pay plan employees will forgo their planned salary increase that was to take effect this coming fiscal year, officials said.

"The economic impact of this virus on our community means every resident in Stamford has been forced to make difficult decisions in this new reality, including myself and my staff," Martin said in a statement. "I want to thank every city pay plan employee who has willingly volunteered to make this personal financial sacrifice. They are all working overtime during this pandemic to help keep the community safe."

According to city officials, the pay plan salary schedule is determined by the World at Work annual salary budget survey for officers and executives. World at Work is a nonprofit professional association in human resources and compensation.
The survey includes over 6,000 responses from both private and public organizations. Pay plan employees do not receive additional pay for overtime, shift differentials, holidays, weekends or standby supplements, officials said.
In total, these salary reductions will result in approximately $200,000 in savings for next year's budget, officials said. Pay plan employees represent a very small fraction of the total city budget, and none of these personnel are among the top 100 highest paid city employees, according to city officials.
