Future 5 Connects Motivated Under-Resourced Stamford High School Students to the People and Resources They Need to Achieve Their Educational, Career and Life Goals

May 21, 2024, Stamford, CT — Stamford Native Mildred "Milly" Triana has returned to the city to become Director of College Success at Future 5. The program connects Future 5 graduates to a multi-layered network of academic, financial, social/emotional, and career support to ensure their college success and career evolution. Triana was previously Senior Assistant Director of Academic Success at the University of Massachusetts (UMass), overseeing football academics from recruitment through graduation.

"We are excited to have Milly Triana as part of our staff," said Amanda Dubois-Mwake, Future 5 Executive Director. "Her multifaceted expertise and commitment to fostering collegiate academic success, as well as her dedication to student academic and personal development, will help us take the College Success program to the next level."

In addition to her time at UMass, Triana served in several roles at the University of Miami including senior academic advisor in the College of Arts & Sciences and as advisor to student athletes in the football (juniors and seniors) and basketball (freshmen) programs. She began her career as a high school recruiter/admissions counselor at Albizu University. Triana has a BA from University of Connecticut, Storrs and MS in Psychology from Albizu University.

"I am deeply honored and thrilled to step into this role," said Triana. "I have a profound personal connection to Stamford, my birthplace, which is forever synonymous with home. And my enthusiasm is fueled by sincere empathy born of my own experiences as a first-generation, low-income student. I understand the challenges that accompany the transition from high school to college, especially for individuals from a similar background."

The Future 5 College Success program offers academic encouragement and tutoring, assistance in transfer from two- to four-year colleges, financial aid and scholarship support, campus specific peer leaders, and workforce development.

"My goal is to establish rapport and trust with our members, serving as a mentor and guide as they navigate their academic journeys," continued Triana. "I am also excited about developing tailored programming aimed at empowering college students to effectively utilize the resources available both on their campuses and through Future 5."

Future 5 connects motivated, under-resourced Stamford students to the people and resources they need to achieve their educational, career, and life goals. To-date, Future 5 has provided connections to more than 850 young people and currently has 100+ on its waiting list. With the support of over 100 volunteers and 50 corporate/community partners, Future 5 offers links to coaching, college, community, and careers, all while helping to build character. Other elements include a pilot mentorship program, formalized "Next Track" coaching for members interested in trade school, the military, and certificate programs, and an active alumni cohort giving back to the organization.
