Stamford Paddlers Join Flotilla To Support Long Island Sound Education
This year's event raised more than $40,000 to support Long Island Sound education programs.
STAMFORD, CT — Stamford residents Steve Bofill and Glenn Van Moffaert, along with board members Kristi Calver, Mike Katz, Lauren Candela-Katz and Rich Thomas, were among the nearly 140 participants in the SoundWaters Flotilla on Saturday, July 12.
This year’s event raised more than $40,000 to support Long Island Sound education programs.
Starting from Cove Island Park in Stamford and Weed Beach in Darien, paddlers navigated a four-mile route that concluded at Boccuzzi Park in Stamford.

After completing the route, participants were treated to a celebratory lunch and music on the beach.
The event was designed for paddlers of all skill levels, and kayak guides and support boards ensured a safe experience for all.
"The Flotilla brings people together to help protect Long Island Sound, and we’re grateful to everyone who joined us this year," said SoundWaters President Leigh Schmitz in a prepared statement. "It’s great to see so many people connecting with the Sound and supporting our mission to preserve it for the future."

Since its debut in 2017, the Flotilla has raised more than $350,000.
The 2025 Flotilla is made possible thanks to the generous support from Franklin Templeton, along with Kaster Moving Company, Hey Stamford!, and WEBE.
