Stamford Police Issue Warning On New Scam Targeting Residents, Local Businesses

The FBI recently issued a warning about this type of fraud occurring nationwide.

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department is warning residents and local businesses about an ongoing scam involving individuals posing as city of Stamford officials in an attempt to collect money.

"Scammers are sending emails with fake invoices for services that may appear legitimate. These emails are being sent from accounts using the domain @usa.com. While this may sound official, @usa.com is NOT an official City of Stamford email domain, and anyone can create an email account using it," police said in a social media post.

The FBI recently issued a Public Service Announcement warning about this type of fraud occurring nationwide.
