Stamford Woman Dies From Injuries After Being Hit By Vehicle: SPD

STAMFORD, CT — Elena Laos, 68, of Stamford, died late Wednesday night at Stamford Hospital hours after she was hit by a vehicle near I-95, according to an update from Stamford police.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (CARS) continues to investigate the collision, which occurred at approximately 6:19 a.m. Wednesday at the top of the Southbound I-95 exit 9 ramp at the junction with East Main Street in Stamford.

Police said a 2015 Chevy driven by Alec Ward, a 26 year-old Shelton resident, was exiting Southbound I-95 at exit 9.

The vehicle was at the top of the ramp and made a right turn onto East Main Street, police said. As the vehicle was making the turn, it struck Laos who was crossing the exit ramp walking westbound on East Main Street.

Police said Ward stayed on the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation.

"Neither excessive speed nor intoxication is being considered a factor in this collision," police said.

The initial investigation shows that Laos was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision, according to police.

Laos suffered life-threatening injuries, and was admitted to Stamford Hospital where she later died.
