STAMFORD, CT — The Lathon Wider Community Center in Stamford could be closed until July, according to an update from Mayor Caroline Simmons.
Located at 137 Henry St., the building closed earlier this month after flooding was discovered in the basement on Jan. 2.
According to Simmons, the flooding was caused by a failure in a piece of mechanical equipment.

"Due to the impact on critical building services, the facility will be closed indefinitely. The target date for reopening is July 1, 2025," Simmons said. "At this time, the city is working with the impacted tenants to try and accommodate their needs during this transition."
The building houses a Department of Motor Vehicles branch and a city of Stamford health clinic. The South End branch of the Ferguson Library also operates from the building, as does a child development program from Children's Learning Centers of Fairfield County, and Clothes To Kids of Fairfield County, a nonprofit that provides free clothing to low-income or in-crisis, school-age children.
