Suspect Arrested In Crash That Killed Stamford Woman: Greenwich PD
Stamford resident Cristina Ann Vomoca, 38, died of the injuries she suffered in the Nov. 19, 2016, crash on Arch Street in Greenwich.

GREENWICH, CT — A 52-year-old Metuchen, NJ man was arrested on a warrant Wednesday on charges of first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault in connection with the Nov. 19 crash that killed Cristina Ann Vomoca of Stamford, according to Greenwich police.
Jeffrey S. Bodnar turned himself into police custody and was released after posting a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 30.
According to Greenwich police, Bodnar was operating a tractor trailer truck on I-95 southbound when he got off at exit 3 on Arch Street in Greenwich.

Instead of stopping at the red light, Bodnar allegedly tried to cross Arch Street to re-enter I-95 when he plowed into a car driven by Vomoca. In addition to Vomoca, also in the vehicle was passenger Maiko Kobayashi, 32, also of Stamford, who suffered serious injuries and is still recuperating, according to police.
According to Greenwich Police Sgt. Patrick Smyth, neither alcohol nor narcotics played a role in Bodnar's driving, but upon consultation with prosecutors, the charges that were levied were in part due to the alleged reckless nature of his actions.

"This was a very long investigation, in which a lot of data was collected and a lot of people were interviewed," said Smyth. "There are more regulations for the operation of tractor trailers, and in this case this went beyond a normal mistake."
The women worked at the Hopscotch Hair Salon in Greenwich and had just left work when the crash occurred.
Vomoca left behind a young son, and a GoFundMe page, now closed, raised more than $125,000 to help with his future and Kobayashi's recovery.
